International Education News

It was difficult, but we just got through a 30 minute meeting without once mentioning the dreaded word. But there’s no escaping the impact the Coronavirus is having on the world of international education, as rapid fire developments and guidance have driven an avalanche of cancellations and coverage questions for our clients and contacts throughout the industry. As a global company headquartered in hurricane-prone Florida, we feel lucky to be well prepared to work remotely and safely through most situations we could face. We know that not everyone is so lucky, so our best thoughts and wishes are with you all as we work through this difficult time.

Let us know how we can help.

Coronavirus Update

Like everyone, it seems, we have been absorbed in dealing with the coronavirus internally, talking with our carrier partners, clients and contacts non-stop over the past few weeks. We are keeping on top of the CDC and DOS travel warnings and working closely with our clients to help determine the best course of action for each situation.

To see how our individual plans cover the coronavirus both for medical and evacuation coverage, please read our blog on COVID-19.

For group clients, we have contacted many of you to help navigate throughout this tumultuous time, and for those with remaining questions, please contact us with any questions you may have.

For those concerned that a future group of students or trip may get canceled, students and institutions can enroll in trip cancellation plans to help mitigate their losses. To learn more, read our newest blog on Trip Cancellation for the Coronavirus.

The deadline to file tax returns is quickly approaching on or before April 15th, and international students are not exempt; all international students and their dependents must submit Form 8843 to the IRS, even if income was not received. If students have come to you with their tax return questions, we hope you found the answers you need on Our tax section is a comprehensive guide to help your international students determine why they should file, which forms they need to complete, step-by-step guidance, and of course, includes our free Form 8843 Wizard.

The tax section is updated for the current year, please feel free to direct students to it for guidance as needed.

School the World Recap

This past week five members of the Envisage team journeyed to Guatemala with School the World to build a school in Sector Castro, Choacaman IV. The community was approved by the local municipality for a school in January, and since that time the 54 local students (33 primary and 21 pre-primary) have been attending classes in a temporary structure and carrying their desks to and from the school each day. It was such a joy and honor to meet the people of the community and to work alongside them and the children to build the classroom and playground for the school. After months of effort and sacrifice from the community, the children now have a beautiful, permanent place to learn where they can focus on their education. We were thrilled to be a small part of it.
