2012 Milestones

2012 was a productive year for all of us at Envisage International. The last milestone of the year (we think) is today's relaunch of Envisage International, our primary corporate site. We spend most of our time working on our student sites, so this update was long overdue. We needed to properly reflect our three primary business units and provide a better overview of what we are all about. Although we will continue to build the site throughout the coming year into a world-class resource for international education professionals, we are glad to take the first step today.

This month we also hired Madelene Glomsten, who has hit the ground running as our new Director of Online Marketing. Madelene will be tasked with ensuring continued traffic growth and enhancing user experience, so she will be working with everyone in the company to make that happen.

Tips for Your International Student Lead Generation Marketing Plan

Lead Generation can be a great way to reach out and recruit international students. If done properly and with the right lead nurturing plan in place, you can significantly increase your enrollment rates and therefore get the most out of your lead generation marketing budget.

One of the first things that you need to do when considering lead generation is make sure that you have a communication plan in place. This will include what to do when you first receive a lead, all the way through to the time that the student enrolls and arrives on campus. Back-end systems are a critical part of this process.

For more information, read our blog post on 5 Steps to Formulating an Ongoing Communications Plan.

The Impact of the Affordable Care Act

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law, mandating fairly radical changes to the U.S. health insurance industry. In the 34 months since then, we have had some clarification of what were entirely murky waters, from three key events.

First, in March of 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released final rules governing student health insurance. These regulations were important for what they did and did not say and do. Second, the Supreme Court upheld the individual mandate contained in the ACA. The individual mandate is the controversial part of the law that requires everyone to purchase health insurance, which was challenged on the grounds that it is unconstitutional to force someone to purchase a commercial product. Had the Supreme Court struck down this component of the law, the rest of the ACA would have been in trouble. Finally, President Obama was re-elected in November, meaning the ACA is here to stay.

With these three events as prelude, we can now turn our attention to the future and the impact of the ACA on insurance for international education. Read our blog post on the ACA for further information.

How Crowdfunding Websites Can Help Your Students

Have you heard of crowdfunding? It's a relatively new concept whereby people use social media platforms to fundraise around the world right online. Students can simply sign up, create a page about their international experience, and have people donate right online. Crowdfunding websites such as the Kickstarter (the leader in the niche) and FundMyTravel (GoAbroad's new site) give students the option to tap into their personal and online communities to raise money to fund their education.
