With International Education Week right around the corner, we’re looking forward to the release of the Open Doors Report so we can dig into the data on international mobility. IEW also means that the 10th annual InternationalStudent.com Travel Video Contest will be announcing its winners soon - Finalists and Viewers’ Choice were announced today, as you’ll see below. And this week we finish up our grand tour of NAFSA Regionals at the Region VIII Conference in Alexandria, Virginia, capping off a productive season where we presented at all 11 regional conferences. Brazil Recession: The Impact on International Education

With Brazil officially in a recession, the Reais hitting the lowest-ever value on record, a fall in commodity prices, and Standard & Poor’s decision to downgrade Brazil’s economy to junk status, we are all speculating on what this means for our Brazilian international students and exchange visitors. This month we will examine the impact of Brazil’s economy on international higher ed, and what this means for Brazilian students in years to come.


NAFSA Regional Insurance Presentations

Our insurance team had sessions approved at ten NAFSA Regional conference this fall - most of which have already taken place, with Region VIII still to come on Thursday. Our topic this year was on improving mental health awareness amongst international students and the response to the sessions has been tremendous. Many of the sessions were to packed houses, with no seating room available and very active discussions, confirming what we thought - mental health is a very important issue for international educators.

“Lead Nurturing - Turning Inquiries into Enrollments”
This session will provide strategies on how to turn prospective students into enrollees. We will discuss lead nurturing throughout the admissions funnel, including how to develop an effective communication and marketing plan.

“Using Lead Generation in Recruitment with Limited Staff Resources”
This session will discuss different strategies for lead nurturing with little resources, including best practices for communication that will convert a student inquiry to an enrollee.
