Envisage International Newsletter

Welcome to the 7th issue of the Envisage International Newsletter. The first quarter of 2012 has been excellent for us at Envisage, having forged new relationships with schools interested in our student leads and insurance businesses while relaunching two of our oldest and most well established sites IEFA.org and InternationalScholarships.com.

With the first quarter now behind us, it is time to turn our focus to NAFSA 2012. While it is still seven weeks away, conference preparation has already started with meetings scheduled and putting the finishing touches on making some exciting partnership and product announcements! We look forward to seeing you all there and hope you can stop by our booths - insurance booth #536 or our leads booth # 402!

In addition to discussing the relaunch of IEFA and International Scholarships, this month we also detail how schools can update and claim their free listing on InternationalStudent.com, we highlight our new partnership with Saginaw Valley State to help diversify their international student population and of course we list our upcoming conference schedule. Read on!

International Student Insurance
Final Student Health Insurance Regulations Issued

Last month, on March 16th, the Department of Human Health Services issued final student health insurance regulations under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Although the regulations are very extensive, the following is a brief summary of the new provisions and future impact on student health plans:

What Plans are Impacted? College and university student group health insurance plans. Student Health Insurance is defined as health insurance offered to students and their dependents under a "written agreement between an institution of higher education and an issuer."

What is the Impact? Student Health Insurance is considered "Individual Health Insurance" under PPACA and will be regulated accordingly for all policies issued on or after July 1st, 2012. All of the individual plan requirements will apply, with some modifications, including:

Lifetime Limits: Student health insurance plans may not impose lifetime limits.

Annual Limits: Plans beginning between July 1st, 2012 and September 23rd, 2012 must cover "Essential Health Benefits" up to the aggregate annual limit of at least $100,000; this level increases to $500,000 after September 23rd, 2012 until January 1st, 2014; after January 1st 2014 coverage must be unlimited.

Preventive Care: Plans must provide preventive care with no cost sharing.

Pre-existing Condition Limitations: Plans may not impose pre-existing condition limitations - first to those younger than 19, then to all participants.

The new regulations will impact the plans provided by many insurance carriers, and will increase pricing in most cases. We are working closely with our underwriters to ensure that our school group clients all have appropriate plans as the regulations phase in.

Highlights from the Envisage Blog

Through our exposure to international educators worldwide, we come across schools at all levels of sophistication when it comes to international student recruitment. Some schools have been marketing to international students for years, with either very sophisticated agent networks or the necessary resources to handle leads from multiple sources and convert them into applications and enrollments.

On the other end of the spectrum are those schools that are just getting started with their international student recruitment, or ones that simply do not have the budget to handle thousands of leads each month. This month on our blog, we highlight one organization (HTIR) and how we have helped them to evolve along this spectrum of recruiting sophistication, helping to create a marketing plan that delivers them not just leads, but actual applications, and allows them to process an increasing number of students each month. Read our blog post on taking lead generation a step further to see how Envisage is working within HTIR's requirements to help them recruit students from all around the world.
