International Education News

With our headquarters half a block off the Atlantic Ocean in Neptune Beach, Florida, Hurricane Irma has put our planning and operations to a shock test over the past few days. Luckily everyone is safe and dry, and with offices now in Mexico City and Leipzig, Germany and with several people working remotely around the country, our team pulled together to keep our service center open and supporting students around the world. Irma was a monster of a storm, and no part of Florida was left untouched. Thanks to everyone that reached out to check on all of us, and to all of our friends in the Caribbean, Florida and Houston, we’re hoping you can pull through okay and get back to some semblance of normal as soon as possible.

12th Annual Travel Video Contest

The annual InternationalStudent.com Travel Video contest is now open! Make sure your international and study abroad students know about their chance to tell their story and win $4,000. Each year we receive tons of video entries from around the world that surpass our expectations and impress us beyond belief. After the contest closes, site visitors choose the Viewers Choice Winner, we choose the other Finalists, and then our impressive panel of judges choose the 12th Annual InternationalStudent.com Travel Video Contest winners. See last year’s winner here, Marina Osorio, from The City College of New York.

All current international and study abroad students are eligible to enter and tell us about any trip they want to take; if not currently studying internationally, students can still enter but their video must describe their proposed study abroad. All video entries must be submitted by October 13th, 2017.

International Student Insurance Orientation Video

Educating your international students on the ins and outs of international student insurance and why you need insurance is often a complex task, especially if you have little or no insurance background. That is why we have created our short 10 minute student insurance orientation video for schools that want to provide an overview of insurance. The video covers topics such as “why you need insurance”, “what type of plan I should purchase” and an overview of the benefits.

The video is free to use, and all we ask in return is you provide a link back to our website!

Healthcare Reform - Status Update

Following the manic scramble by the House and Senate, urged on by President Trump, to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act (also called the ACA or Obamacare), and the failure of those efforts it’s now a good time to reflect on what has and hasn’t been done, the potential future of Obamacare, and any possible impact on international students. If you want a spoiler, the answer is that as far as international students and scholars go, just like the majority of Americans, very little is likely to change.
