International Education News

We are tremendously proud of our team of intrepid volunteers and the incredible work they just completed in Guatemala with School the World, on our second annual corporate service trip. Thanks to so many of you for your encouragement and support of our efforts at building schools and an education mindset in Quiche, and hopefully the blogs, social media, and updates below help you to feel part of it. Moving on to more prosaic matters, our ISI team is busy onboarding new group insurance clients and responding to RFPs, so please see below for our unique strengths in providing group international student insurance. And tax time is right around the corner, so remember as you see those questions flying around the listservs, we have a comprehensive, free tax center specifically built to guide your international students.

Giving Back in Guatemala

Our 2019 EIC School the World team has returned to the United States from Guatemala, leaving behind two new playgrounds and three new classrooms. Five members of the Envisage International team spent last week with team members from IvyWise, Flywire, and International Medical Group working hard to make quality education accessible in Caserío Chuchún, a community of Sacapulas, Guatemala. They mixed concrete, painted walls, dug trenches, planted greenery, and together created a world of opportunity for children within the remote area.

We are honored to have had the support and encouragement from so many of you. You can read more about each day of the journey within our blog or on Facebook. If you would like to participate in a School the World program, learn more about their corporate opportunities.

Tax Guidance for Your International Students

Our Tax Form 8843 Online Wizard was created to help international students during tax season. The Form 8843 online wizard is free, easy to use and has been updated for the new year. Students simply enter their details, and the information pre-populates into the actual IRS Form 8843. Students can then download, print, sign, and send it to the IRS for processing. No information is held once the form has been populated, so privacy is maintained and ensured.

Remember that all international students and their dependents must submit Form 8843 to the IRS, even if income was not received. Make the tax return process easier for your students and their dependents by sharing our tax return section with them.

Sexual Assault Awareness

Sexual violence is an issue that many colleges and universities have been struggling with, not just in the United States, but around the world. In the time of the #MeToo movement, schools in Canada and Australia are also looking inwardly and evaluating the support services they are providing to their students. Visit our newest blog to learn more about how sexual assault is a widespread issue, what is being done in Canada and Australia to make university campuses a safe and supportive environment, and resources that you can implement at your institution.
